Media Coverage and Seminars on Open Textbooks

26 January, 2015 - 17:17

The Open Textbooks for Hong Kong Project team is now developing twelve sets of open textbooks (‘Open English’ series) on the English Language subject at Primary 1 to Secondary 6 levels, which strictly follow the syllabus of the Curriculum Development Institute (CDI) and the NSS curriculum. In order to allow more schools to know in depth about this project and the textbook series, we will hold monthly seminars for school principals and teachers between February and April 2015.

In 2014, over 230 schools attended our briefing sessions on the tryout of English Language open textbooks. After the briefing sessions, more than 400 teachers downloaded the ‘Open English’ series through our website; around 50 primary and secondary schools agreed to use our textbooks, both printed and electronic versions, in the 2014-15 school year. The textbooks are scheduled for use by schools in the 2015-16 school year.

For an overview of our project rationale and how schools responded to the tryout of our open textbooks, please refer to the interview we had with the SCMP, which was published on 9 Jan 2015. Link: Open University of Hong Kong makes online teaching materials freely available (SCMP, 9 Jan 2015)

For school principals and teachers who would like to get further information and obtain FREE copies of the ‘Open English’ textbook series, they are most welcome to attend our monthly seminars between February and April 2015.
