With the support of the Education Bureau and funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) has completed the Open Textbooks for Hong Kong project in March 2016. For primary and secondary schools, we have developed Hong Kong’s first free-to-download and copyright-free open textbooks on the English Language subject– Open English. It allows students to freely use the textbooks, and at the same time teachers can modify the textbooks to suit the needs of their students.
Open English has been placed on the EDB's Recommended Textbook List (printed books) since 2015. The whole textbook series, as well as the associated textbook components, are now available on our website for local school teachers to download for free.
In order to introduce open textbook to Hong Kong schools, we will organize monthly seminars for primary and secondary schools starting March 2017. School teachers are cordially invited to attend any one of the following seminars on the project, which will cover:
i. The concept of open textbooks and open licenses;
ii. Features of Open English in multiple formats; and
iii. How open textbooks can enhance learning and teaching.
An invitation letter has already been sent to schools. If your school is interested in the seminars, please fill out the enclosed registration form and fax it to us (2396 5009).
Prior registration is required. If teachers have any queries about the seminar, or have not received our invitation letter, please contact our Project Coordinator, Ms Wu (Tel: 2768 6484; email: bwu@ouhk.edu.hk).
