At the extreme left-hand side of the continuum are the optimists. These are individuals who conceive of the MNC as the best thing that has happened since the industrial revolution. They envision the MNC as playing an ever more active role in both domestic and international affairs and see no conflicts between the nation-state's objectives and the MNC's goals. 1
