Methodologies are extensively used by IS professionals to compete various tasks that involve planning, building and managing plans or systems. Methodologies can assist in reducing the risk of project failure, since they allow users to capture the real picture of the problem, develop strategies to solve the problem and to take actions; in other words, they can provide users with a way of thinking and doing and ensuring quality. Therefore, methodologies can be influential and careful evaluation and selection must precede the adoption of methodologies. Methodologies should be adopted to add business value and not to be used as cover up.
