The iPhone provides its users with an interesting introduction to the evolution of interfaces from the GUI/WIMP era, to post-WIMP and finally a demonstration of future elements. These features, along with its functionality, have made it very popular and easy to learn and use. Its uses of WIMP include icons, menus and pointing. Its zooming and direct manipulation capabilities integrate WIMP and post-WIMP interactions. Finally, its use of sliding and spatial recognition are examples of future interface technologies.
