Changing the job

7 December, 2015 - 15:53

Once candidates for job redesign are identified, the problem and preferred option should be listed. For example:

  • Problem: skill variety. Option: Have two employees trade jobs for part of the day.
  • Problem: task identity. Option: Make employee responsible for one identifiable piece of work, such as a clean room, a salad, a banquet room setup.
  • Problem: task significance. Option: Show employees how their job affects guest satisfaction. Publicize the importance of the job to those in other departments and outside the property as well.
  • Problem: autonomy. Option: Actively solicit employee suggestions on how to perform the job better.
  • Problem: feedback. Option: Ensure that supervisors give positive as well as negative feedback on the employee's performance.
