Improving employee productivity begins with hiring the right kind of employee. The hospitality employees of the future will be different from those available today. In concert with changing demographics, the industry will rely more heavily on women, Hispanics, senior citizens, the handicapped and part-time workers.
The successful utilization of employees from any of these groups will require different techniques from those used at present. While there is an up-front investment in approaching hiring, training, and coaching in a different way, the long-term payoffs will offset the up-front costs.
