In an interdependent relationship, such as the one between an MNC and its environment, changes in the behavior of one system lead to changes in the behavior of the other. Although it is difficult to pinpoint when or where a change is initiated, we can determine the impact of one system's change in behavior on the other. A review of global events and trends reveals a number of megatrends in the global business environment that have spurred the drive toward globalization. Some of these developments have surfaced only recently; others represent natural trends that have been long in the making and have been discussed elsewhere in this book.
